With a proven track record of academic excellence, an extensive research portfolio, and active professional memberships, Dr. Sirwan Babaei is dedicated to advancing knowledge in weed resistance, ecology, and management.
Education
Dr. Sirwan Babaei earned a Ph.D. in Weed Science from the University of Tehran in 2014, where their dissertation focused on the genetic variation and different ecotypes’ response of Hordeum spontaneum C. Koch to sulfosulfuron herbicide. Before this, they obtained an M.Sc. in Weed Science (2009) and a B.S. in Plant Production Engineering (Horticulture) in 2007, both from the University of Tehran.
Professional Experience
Currently serving as a Research Scholar at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL, USA, Dr. Sirwan Babaei is engaged in cutting-edge research on the impacts of airborne dust on herbicide performance. Their contributions also include collaborative studies on nitrogen rates and harvesting time effects on winter cereal rye. Previously, as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kurdistan in Sanandaj, Iran (2014 – 2022), Dr. Sirwan Babaei taught a variety of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Their research focused on weed resistance, ecology, and biology, leading to the publication of several articles in reputable journals.
